22,50

Antonio Gude, eight-time Spanish champion and expert in chess pedagogy, addresses in this book the most sophisticated and complex form of chess sacrifice: one that does not seek an immediate combination but creates lasting imbalances, transforms the dynamics of the position and obtains long-term strategic advantages.

Description

The most difficult sacrifice to evaluate, and the most beautiful

The positional sacrifice is the peak of strategic chess. There is no forced combination at the end of the calculation, no immediate material benefit, no solution verifiable with precision. The player gives up material, sometimes a piece, sometimes the exchange, sometimes a pawn, in exchange for an advantage whose nature is fundamentally positional: greater piece activity, permanent weakening of the opponent’s position, control of key squares or the creation of a passed pawn. That advantage may materialise in 10 moves or in 40. Or it may never materialise if the sacrifice was not correctly calculated.

Antonio Gude, one of the most prolific and pedagogically gifted chess writers in Spanish and eight-time Spanish champion, approaches this topic with the rigour and clarity that characterise him. The book traces the history of the positional sacrifice, builds its theory and illustrates it with a selection of real practical positions.
