Description
♟️ What is this book?
Build Up Your Chess 3 closes the first level of the Yusupov Method. It is the most demanding of the three Build Up volumes, and its role is dual: to complete the coverage of all foundational topics and to prepare the player for the step up to Boost Your Chess, the second level of the series, which is significantly more complex.
Like the previous volumes, the structure is 24 chapters alternating tactics, strategy, and endgames. But the positions are more complex, the combinations longer, the strategic ideas subtler, and the endgames more technically demanding. Completing this volume is a genuine milestone in the Yusupov system.
🎯 Who is this book for?
- Intermediate players who have worked through Build Up Your Chess 1 and 2 and want to complete the first level
- Students following the full nine-volume series under a coach
- Players approaching the 1800–2000 Elo range who want a structured path to the next level
📖 What’s inside
The book covers the same three areas as the previous volumes — tactics, strategy, and endgames — at the highest difficulty of the Build Up level:
- Tactics: multi-move combinations, positional sacrifices, defensive combinations
- Strategy: long-term plans, piece restructuring, transformation of advantages
- Endgames: complex rook endings, minor piece endgames, queen endgames
- Calculation: deep calculation in positions with multiple candidate moves
The self-test exercises at the end of each chapter are noticeably harder than those in volumes 1 and 2. Low scores in several areas are a useful signal that some topics from earlier volumes need revisiting before moving on to Boost Your Chess.
📚 The milestone: completing Build Up Your Chess
Finishing all three volumes of Build Up Your Chess is one of the clearest markers of genuine improvement in the Yusupov system. Players who have worked through all 72 chapters methodically will have a significantly stronger positional and tactical foundation than they started with.
♟️ Why we recommend it at Chesscul
At Chesscul we recommend this volume only to students who have genuinely completed volumes 1 and 2 — not those who have read through them without doing the exercises. The difficulty step is real.
