Description
In this new Spanish edition by Jacob Aagaard, Attack and Defense, the author presents the fundamental principles of how to attack and defend in chess. By dividing dynamic chess into distinct areas of chess skill, he offers the reader a clear way to expand their understanding of this vital part of the game.
“Playing the violin and learning languages are similar activities: the brain needs a special map for this kind of activity, so they must be learned at an early age, due to brain biochemistry, I suppose. This explains why many players get stuck at a certain level: their map is finished! Depressing, isn’t it? But this is where Aagaard (and other heavyweights like Dvoretsky and Yusupov) come to the rescue!”
The author addresses the following attacking principles:
-
Bring all the pieces into the attack
-
Pawn thrust
-
Color
-
Quantity beats quality
-
Attack the weakest square
-
Evolution or revolution
-
Kill zone
-
Only move
-
Comparison
-
Prophylaxis
-
Active defense
Aagaard’s books are designed to reshape the “chess map” in our minds! Jacob wants to turn the narrow path of searching for good moves into a highway where good moves flow freely.
