Chapter 0 covers the most basic ending before entering the classical defences. This progression allows building understanding from the foundation, without taking for granted concepts that in practice aren’t known.

📚 The approach: understanding over memorisation

This book is not a collection of positions to memorise. Stella starts from the question the player has to ask themselves in the game: when is it possible to win, when is it possible to defend and how to distinguish one position from the other with the time available on the board? The explanations are built so the reader develops their own judgment. Diagrams allow following the analysis without a physical board and the language is direct and jargon-free.

Andrea Stella (Italy, 1993) has been an International Grandmaster since 2017, with a peak rating of 2512. Runner-up in the Italian Chess Championship in 2017 and winner of tournaments including the Oslo Chess Festival, the Plzen Open and the 2024 Gran Hotel Bali International Open. He has lived in Spain since 2018, combining his competitive career with coaching. He has over 15 years’ experience as a coach and collaborates with New In Chess Yearbook and the Spanish magazine Peón de Rey. This book is written directly in Spanish.
