Every Chesscul group is taught live by a qualified chess teacher, entirely in English. Alberto Toval, Chesscul's founder, holds a 2000+ FIDE Elo rating and a Superior Monitor qualification from FADA with over 15 years of competitive and coaching experience. Carmen María López specialises in beginner teaching with a particular focus on younger students and first-time adult learners. Luis Troughton leads the intermediate groups, focused on the tactical and strategic development that elevates players from solid foundations to competitive standard.
For Derry students, the online format provides access to professional chess coaching without requiring travel to Belfast or another city. A student in the Bogside, Waterside, Limavady or anywhere across the northwest joins the same live, interactive session — shared board, real-time position analysis, direct teacher contact throughout — as any other student in the group. Distance from the capital does not mean lower-quality instruction.
