Dublin is one of Ireland's most active cities for chess, with a strong club tradition and a growing number of families looking for structured, accessible coaching. Our online chess lessons in Dublin bring that same level of quality to a live format you can join from anywhere in the city — Southside, Northside, Dún Laoghaire or beyond. Classes run twice a week, one hour per session, with a teacher on screen sharing a live board throughout.
Children as young as six and adults of any experience level are welcome. The format is exactly the same: small groups (max. 15), fixed schedule, and a method that moves from fundamentals to tactics to strategic planning without skipping steps. Progress is visible within weeks, not months, and our teachers track each student individually so nobody gets left behind.
We offer three levels for Dublin students, each with its own dedicated group and curriculum. Beginner classes cover piece movement, basic checkmates, opening principles and early tactical patterns — ideal for complete newcomers or those who know the rules but have never studied properly. Intermediate classes focus on calculation, pawn structures, tactical combinations and endgame technique for players who already have some experience. Advanced classes work at a competitive level: deep preparation, technical endgames and strategic plans tailored to players aiming to improve their FIDE rating or tournament results.
Not sure which level is right for you? Take our free 6-question level test — it takes two minutes and gives you an instant recommendation. All Dublin groups open September 2026.
Every Chesscul group is taught by a qualified, experienced chess teacher — not a recorded video or an AI tool. Alberto Toval, founder and head teacher, holds a 2000+ FIDE Elo rating and a Superior Monitor (FADA) qualification with over 15 years of competitive and coaching experience. Carmen María López teaches the beginner groups, specialising in younger learners and adult beginners. Luis Troughton teaches the intermediate groups, helping players break through plateaus and transition into competitive play.
All classes are delivered in English, scheduled around Irish time (IST/GMT), and use a shared live board so students in Dublin can follow every move in real time. Teachers answer questions during class, analyse positions together with the group and assign short exercises between sessions to consolidate learning. The result is a coaching experience that feels personal even in a group setting.
Each Chesscul course runs on a fixed weekly schedule — two one-hour sessions per week — so Dublin students can plan their time reliably. There is no permanent contract: you can join or leave at the end of any month. The curriculum is structured so that every concept builds on the previous one, covering openings, middlegame tactics, strategic plans and endgames in a logical sequence.
Classes take place on a shared online board platform that requires no download or technical knowledge. The teacher controls the board, shows ideas, sets puzzles and reviews student games. Between sessions, students have access to short exercises and materials through the Chesscul platform. From €39/month for beginner and intermediate groups, €49/month for advanced — no enrolment fee, no hidden costs. Your place is confirmed within 48 hours of pre-registering.

"I've been at this school for a couple of weeks and I'm genuinely really happy. I was looking for something that wouldn't get too expensive and where I could interact directly with the teacher — not just watch videos online. It's great because we cover all kinds of content, the atmosphere is friendly, and classes have a maximum of 10 to 15 students. They also run tournaments which makes it much more enjoyable. Highly recommended."
"I've always known two things: chess is a way for me to take my thinking seriously, and at the same time a form of entertainment. What I didn't know is that at a school like Chesscul I could develop both. With teachers like Carmen and her online teaching method, I've discovered all of this. It's been wonderful. Thank you."
"My son has been at Chesscul for almost a year and he absolutely loves it. The classes are fun and educational at the same time — they do monthly tournaments that motivate him enormously, and his concentration has improved noticeably, which shows in his schoolwork too. 100% recommend."
